What I found surprising about the course outcomes was the different types of professionals that have been taking these classes. I would never imagine that people would get interested in taking English Composition classes to write on their working daily basis (office letters, emails, etc.).
I decided to take English Composition classes in order to get help in developing skills to write blogs, texts about reflections, different subjects, articles and so on...specially because I love reading and writing. It is amazing to have learned that these classes will also help me to communicate with my work colleagues. As a second language, I admit that ideas and words don't flow naturally as they do in Brazilian Portuguese, so by taking these classes I am counting on solving this problem as well because for me, it is not just a matter of being fluent in English, but also being confident that whatever you are writing, it will reach its goal, and that readers will take the essence of what you are expressing in your words. It comforted me to see that video presentation with Mr. Corey saying that learning how to write is a lifetime journey, and I agree with his explanation. As a translator, I confess that it requires a lot of knowledge to be able to express and reach public's attention by writing a magazine article or a book story, or any kind of text specially when they have to be translated. We need to feel the writer's intentions, we have to dive into their thoughts and meanings to transfer the same context to the target language. In sum, I am very excited about this course, and looking forward for the next step.
